Frequently Asked Questions
Therapy can feel like a big step. This page is here to answer the most common questions I receive, so you can decide whether Steady Place Therapy feels like the right fit for you.
-
During the first session, we’ll focus on understanding what’s been going on for you and what you’d like help with. I’ll ask a ton of questions to get a fuller picture of your experiences, explain my approach, and talk through next steps.
-
Standard sessions are 53 minutes long. Extended 90-minute sessions are an option as needed for more in-depth work.
Most clients begin with weekly sessions for the first 6–8 weeks. This helps build momentum, establish safety, and create meaningful progress early on. After that, we’ll reassess together and adjust frequency based on your goals and needs. Many clients continue with weekly sessions, while others shift to biweekly over time.

Please be aware that if you use your insurance for therapy, that can put limits on the frequency & number of sessions we may have, and that your insurance can access and read your private medical records. Insurance companies require therapists to assign a mental health diagnosis starting with the first session. That diagnosis is then submitted to your insurance company and becomes part of your long-term medical record, which can be accessed by insurers and other healthcare providers in the future. Private pay offers more privacy, flexibility, and autonomy in your care. Some clients may opt to choose the private pay route so that they have more control over their treatment, allowing therapy to remain truly private, as no diagnosis or session notes are shared with insurance companies. If your insurance deductible is high, your fee through insurance could end up being close to or higher than my private pay fee. We can run your plan to see your estimated fee if you'd like to use your insurance, just let me know. Currently, I can accept Cigna, Aetna, and most, but not all, BCBS plans. Currently pending UHC, Oxford and Oscar plans. I do not accept any Medicaid or Medicare plans.
-
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please do so at least 24 business hours in advance, and on Fridays by 3pm for Monday appointments, to avoid being charged the full private pay session fee. Your appointment time is reserved just for you! This policy helps me honor your time and ensure availability for other clients as well.
-
There’s no set number of sessions as therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all.
Some clients come for short-term support around a specific issue, while others choose longer-term work to understand deeper patterns and create lasting change. We’ll collaborate on goals and regularly assess progress, but the work unfolds differently for everyone.
Most clients notice meaningful shifts within the first few months, especially when they’re engaged both in and outside of sessions.

Yes. Virtual therapy is available for Texas residents.
Many clients choose virtual sessions for convenience, consistency, or accessibility. All sessions are held through a secure platform designed to protect your privacy. Virtual therapy can be just as effective as in-person work for many concerns.
