Online therapy in Texas for people who are running on empty

Your calendar is already full, and the idea of adding a commute to the one hour a week that's supposed to be for you might be the reason you haven't started. Online sessions let you do the work from wherever you are in Texas.

Sound familiar?

Most people who choose online therapy with me aren't looking for a watered-down version of the real thing. They're looking for a version that actually fits into the life they have.

AllySteady Place Therapy
I've meant to start therapy for months, and every time I look at my week there's no room for a drive across town and back.
I live somewhere in Texas where the closest therapist who understands high-pressure work is an hour or more away.
I travel for work often enough that a standing weekly appointment in one office never lasts.
Honestly, I'd feel more comfortable opening up from my own couch than sitting in a waiting room.
I'm a parent, and the logistics of getting out of the house are half the battle.
I want the option to go online when a week gets away from me.
None of this means you're less committed. It means you're being realistic about your capacity, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Does online therapy actually work?

It's a fair question, and I'd rather you ask it than quietly assume the answer. Online therapy is different from sitting in the same room, and there are occasional internet hiccups. But for most people, once the first session or two get the awkwardness out of the way, the screen becomes pretty easy to forget.

A big part of my work is with the nervous system, noticing what happens in your body when stress spikes and practicing ways to bring it back down. That work translates well to video because you're learning skills you can use in the same places you actually need them. Settling your body in your own living room, with your own dog barking in the background, can make the work feel pretty real.

Online isn't the right fit for everyone. If you don't have a private place to talk, or you know you'll spend the whole hour answering Slack messages in another tab, we'll talk about that honestly. In-person sessions in Southlake are always an option, too.

You don't have to rearrange your whole life to start taking care of it.

What a session looks like from your side of the screen

Before our first session you'll get a link to a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, so there's nothing to download or figure out ahead of time. All you need is a phone or laptop with a decent connection and somewhere you can talk without being overheard. Headphones help, especially if you share a house with people who are curious about what you're saying.

Sessions are the same length and pace as they are in person. We'll talk, and when it's useful we'll slow down and notice what's happening in your body, which works just as well on camera. If the connection drops, simply rejoin with the same link, and we pick up where we left off.

Online, in person, or both

You don't have to pick one forever. Some people start online because it's the only way to get started, and then come into the Southlake office once in a while when they want a change of scenery. Others see me in person most weeks and switch to video when they're working from home or a day blows up. We'll figure out what fits your life, and it's okay if that changes.

Do I need to live in Texas?

You need to be physically located in Texas at the time of each session, because that's where I'm licensed. That covers anywhere from Dallas-Fort Worth to the Hill Country and everything in between. If you'll be traveling out of state, let me know ahead of time and we'll plan around it.

Is online therapy as effective as in person?

For most of the people I work with, yes. The screen doesn't change the fact that we're still having a real conversation, paying attention to what's happening, and doing the work together. And if online isn't clicking for you, we'll talk about it and adjust.

Is it private?

Sessions happen on a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform, and I take my calls from a private space. The part you control is your side, so pick a spot where you won't be overheard, and use headphones if you share walls with other people.

Can we do EMDR online?

Yes, when it's a good fit. It's adapted for video with eye movements or tapping you can follow on screen, and we'd only start once you feel steady and have ways to settle yourself at home afterward. Read more about EMDR therapy.

Can my teen do therapy online?

Yes. Some teens actually find it easier to open up from their own room. Read more about teen therapy.

What if I don't have a private place to talk at home?

That's really common, and your car or a quiet room at work both work well. If there's truly nowhere, in-person sessions in Southlake are always available.

Do you take insurance?

I'm in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna and Curative, and private pay is always an option. The Investment page has fees and details.

Therapy that fits into the life you already have.

If you've been putting this off because you couldn't find the time or the right person nearby, let's talk. A free 15-minute consult is a low-stakes way to see if working together feels like a fit, and you can take it from wherever you are.
